Karadaiyan Nonbu 2023 Date, Time and Significance of The Festival

Karadaiyan Nonbu:

     Karadaiyan Nombu is also referred to as a Savitri Vratham, this occasion this year fell on March 15, 2023.

  •      Karadaiyan Nombu is a Hindu festival, that is normally performed by women from all over Tamil Nadu
  •      It is believed that it is a welfare of Hindu festivals observed by women for the wellness of their husbands and future husbands. 
  •      It has a relation to how Savithri saved her husband from Yamadharma Raja.
  •      This Hindu festival is celebrated in the starting month of Panguni in the Tamil Calendar.

Celebration of Karadaiyan Nombu:

  •      This celebration is fully for married and young girls. They pray and do vratham for the well-being of their husband. This fully represents the devotion and love of Savitri, she saved her husband’s life. 
  •      The great gesture of Savitri to save her husband becomes the epic tale in Mahabharata. 
  •       Married women fast on that day, before observing fasting they draw kolam in front of their pooja room, and after bath, they start their fasting by doing pooja. 
  •      They prepare prasadam for god with rice powder and jaggery. And they also offer adai. 
  •      Adai got a place special place in Karadaiyan Nonbu. 

Karadaiyan Nombu 2023 Rituals:

  •      Fasting or  Vratham is the most important ritual on this day. 
  •      Women start observing a fast from the time of getting up. 
  •      Devotees may follow lots of rituals and methods to do this Karadaiyan nonbu. 
  •      On this auspicious woman prepare Neivedyam which is specially made for karadaiyan nombu after the pooja naivedyam offered to the deity. 
  •      They make karadi with the base ingredient of rice and some people make this with jaggery or uppu adai.
  •      Offer the prasadham after puja. 
  •      And women break their fast after completing pooja rituals.  

When Karadaiyan Nonbu is Observed in Tamil Nadu:

  •      Karadaiyan nonbu is observed in the Tamil month of Panguni or Massi, people choose the day from these months and observe Karadaiyan Nonbu.
  •      It is normally celebrated at the exact time Massi ends and Panuguni starts.
  •      These two months are more auspicious and the best time for karadaiyan nonbu.

How to Celebrate Karadaiyan Nombu:

  •      Women pray to and offer karadaiyan nonbu special neivedyam to Goddess Gowri. And they also chant special mantras.
  •      They perform this puja at the correct time every year. 
  •      Another important ritual women should follow on this day is wearing yellow thread around their necks, this is called “Karadai Nonbu Saradu”
  •      They also tied flowers in the thread, this is the most important ritual in Karadai nonbu, they tied the thread for a husband’s well-being.

  •      Karadaiyan nonbu is very special around India, mostly in Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, and Kerala. 

Pooja Items for Karadaiyan Nombu:

On this auspicious day, women offer flowers and prayers to the goddess Gowri.

  • Neiveidhyam is made of rice, jaggery, and uppe-adai,
  • Beetle leaves
  • Kumkum
  • Yellow thread,
  • Coconut,
  • Bananas,
  • Flowers,
  • Turmeric,

  • Sweets.

Significance of Karadaiyan Nombu:

  •       This auspicious festival is observed by married women by offering Neivedyam and chanting mantras to Goddess Gowri. 
  •      We celebrate this festival in remembrance of Satyvan-Savitri. 
  •      Married women observe this nonbu for the prosperity and well-being of their husbands.
  •      Young girls perform this to get good husbands.
