ORIGIN OF THE NAME “HANUMAN”:
In general Hanuman have got a lot of names representing various incidents. The term Hanuman is a sanskrit word which means “disfigured jaw”, where hanu means jaw and man means disfigured. This is because of a legend behind the name, where Lord Indra hitted lord hanuman with his Vajrayudha (thunderbolt) when lord hanuman pretended Sun as a ripe fruit to be eaten as he was hungry. Hence he got his jaw damaged while Lord Indra threw his weapon pushing him towards the earth.
Meanwhile Lord Vayu got angry and upset about the things that happened to his son and created a lack of air in the earth which made all the living creatures suffer to death. In order to make him calm all the devas of heaven promised to bless Hanuman with various asthiraas that made Hanuman excel at each field in every way possible.
HANUMAN IN RAMAYANA:
Hanuman is considered as the most important characteristic role and the game changer of the epic Ramayana. A separate part called SUNDARA KANDAM is known for his pride. When Lord Rama and Lakshmana reached Kishkinda in search of Rama’s lost wife Sita, they came in contact with the Monkey king Sugriva. He sent his scout to 4 directions in search of Sita, in which Hanuman’s troop along with Jambavan (the great bear) went towards the south direction and found the island Srilanka, the place where King Ravana rules.
Lanka can be reached only when the great ocean is crossed and everyone knows that only Hanuman can do it. Hence Jambavan lifted Hanuman’s curse and made him remember back his dynamic divine powers. Soon he took a mountain size form and made a big leap over ocean towards Lanka and took an ant form to enter into the island. There he found Sita devi and informed all the happenings by showing the Kanayali of rama as an identity of being his devotee(Rama Dhootha). In return Sita offered her soodamani and waited there informing that she believes in her husband about her recovery from that place.
Eventually Lord Hanuman got caught by the Ravana’s troop and his tail was said to be lit with fire. He started growing his tail long and long leaped, jumped, ran all over the place spreading the fire and as a result the whole place got into fire. With the triumph he returned to Rama and informed all the happenings.A great war was called off in which Lakshma got wounded which could be cured only by the magical herb in himalayan mountains and the Hanuman was assigned with the task of bringing the right herb on time. As he was confused he just rooted off the whole mountain containing the herbs called SANJEEVI mountain and brought the whole mountain in order to help Lakshmana.Atlast Lord rama defeated Ravana and rescued Sita Devi back.
Being an ardent devotee of Lord Rama, Hanuman Refused his gift and proved them by opening up his chest where Lord Rama and Sita resided within him. Therefore Lord Rama blessed hanuman with immortality and he would live on for a long life even after the destruction of the universe.

Hanuman reaches patala and finds that Mahiravana can be killed only when the 5 lamps lit in 5 different directions should be destroyed simultaneously at the same time.In order to save Rama and Lakshma he took the form of Panchamukha Anjaneya with 5 heads in which his own face on east direction, Narashimha face on south direction, Garuda face on west direction, Varaha face on North direction and Hayagriva face towards up. As stepping over a creature is disrespectful on those days Bhima asked the disguised form of hanuman to leave him the way.
Lord Hanuman asked him to lift his tail and make a passage to go through. Being proud of his strength Bhima tried hard and hard but could not lift the tail of the disguised hanuman.
