WHAT IS HOLI:

  •      Holi is an Indian cultural festival that is celebrated to honor Lord Krishna. This is also called as festival of colors. 
  •      Holi is a joyful and cheerful Festival. At this festival, people apply beautiful colors to each other as a symbol of love. This is one of the ways of sharing love.

ABOUT HOLI:

  •      The festival Holi in India signifies the approval of spring and the end of winter.
  •       It starts on the evening of Purnima ( full moon day) in vikram samvat. 
  •       The celebration starts on the night before Holi, where the religious rituals happen in front of a bonfire. 

HISTORY OF HOLI:

  •      The king of asuras, hiranyakashipu had earned a boon that made him gain five special powers. He told everyone to worship him, but his son Prahlada disagreed and devoted Lord Vishnu. Because of this hiranyakashipu gave cruel punishments to his son Prahlada. 
  •      Hiranyakashipu enlisted the help of his sister, Holika to kill his son. In an attempt to burn Prahlada, Holika sat with him on a pyre while wearing a cloak that protected her from the fire. 
  •       Instead, the cloak protected Prahlada and burned Holika. Later that night Vishnu succeeded in killing hiranyakashipu. On the night before Holi , a large pyre is lit to celebrate this occasion.

WHY HOLI IS CELEBRATES IN INDIA:

  •       Holi is the most popular festival in India mostly in Hinduism. It is celebrated to represent the eternal love of Lord Radha and Krishna in the form of sharing colors with each other. 
  •        On this day we welcome the upcoming season of spring and start our life fresh without any inhibitions. 
  •        In India, we worship Radha and Krishna to get pure love and divinity. They love colors, so In India, we celebrate Holi.

  •       People also believed that Holi is celebrated for the Hindu deity Krishna is called Rangpanchami of the divine love of Radha
  •      Dark skin Krishna always despaired about the likeness of girls towards him for which his mother asked him to approach Radha and color her face with the color which he likes.
  •       After that, the coloring of Radha’s face came to celebrate as holy. It is believed that this is also a main reason to celebrate Holi.

DIFFERENT NAMES OF HOLI FESTIVAL:

  •       This festival is celebrated in different regions with different names. In the village of Barsana and Uttar Pradesh, the name of the festival is ”Lathmar Holi ”.
  •       In the name of Uttarakhand, where people called it ”khadi Holi”. In Punjab, it is called ”Hola Mohalla”.
  •       People of Odisha and west Bengal called it has ”Dol Jatra and Basant Utsav”. In Bihar, it is celebrated in the name of ”Phaghwa”. 

RITUALS AND TRADITIONS THAT FOLLOW ON HOLI:

  •       Holi festival is an ancient festival in Hindu tradition. This festival mostly celebrates in the North side of India. 
  •       Not only in India most other countries grandly celebrated Holi with some of the common rituals of applying colors to each other with love. This is a holiday in many states of India. 
  •       By doing bonfires we set lights in our life and spread positive energy.
